Featured in Sunset Magazine!
In 2011 we set a goal to be in Sunset Magazine and in August 2017 our goal was achieved! Johanna Silver and her team came to Reno and spent the day at our place interviewing and taking pictures for the article. The night before their visit our friends and family came over to help us clean and arrange so our place could look its very best for this opportunity.

We are Sutter and Samantha Stremmel and we own Sierra Water Gardens, a specialty boutique nursery.
Sutter is a Reno native and Sam is a Montana farm girl, together we moved to Reno in 2010 after graduating from Montana State University with literature degrees and purchasing Sierra Water Gardens in foreclosure. We saw this as an opportunity to work outside, work together, work for ourselves and work the land in an urban setting. Every year we strive to learn more and make the nursery better for the Reno/Tahoe community. We are an all outdoor nursery and we do as much as we can to maximize our small Truckee riverfront property for a unique retail experience. Retail upfront and relaxation in the back. We sell all types and sizes of succulents, airplants, terrariums, indoor plants, water plants, koi, goldfish, trees and other garden plants.
We close down in the wintertime every year November 1 - March 31 and during that time we focus on our other business, The Wedge Ceramics Studio. In 2011 we opened a public ceramics studio across the street called The Wedge Ceramics Studio, where we have classes, workshops, memberships and art shows. A lot of local ceramic artists make pots and sell them at Sierra Water Gardens for a truly locally made and unique container for succulents and other plants!
When we aren't working we love to hike, bike, fly-fish, camp, ski/snowboard, and explore!
Resident Shop Pets
Three shop dogs live at Sierra Water Gardens, Oly, Copper and Reba! Oly (American Water Spaniel) doesn't come outside much, but Copper (Border collie/Springer mix) and Reba (Springer Spaniel) love to greet customers. Two shop cats, Fig and Newt, also call the nursery home and they love attention. It is because of our pets that we understand shopping with your dog can be fun, but we ask if you bring your dog into our store also our backyard, please keep them on a leash and from harassing our resident animals.
